Coppélia, Assembly Rooms, Tunbridge Wells
Article by: Review by Marianne Edwards, ballet student
This performance of Coppélia was a wonderful experience: the show was enchanting and very colourful. The costumes were outstanding and made the narrative come alive. Kristina Terentiev, dancing the part of Swanilda, was beautiful. Her dancing was technically fantastic and she was a great performer making it a pleasing show to watch.
The corps de ballet were perfectly in time and took Kristina’s performance to the next level. Alexei Terentiev, playing Franz, also did well and acted all through his part – as did the toymaker who had the whole audience laughing at his charming scene with his doll Coppélia, and Franz.
Coppélia was a wonderful dancer, who had a most remarkable toy-like quality, and executed complex pointe work very well. Overall I really enjoyed watching this ballet and hope to see an Ellen Kent production again.
