Book Review: Mind Games by Teri Terry

Published by Hachette

Mind Games is set in a future where almost everything is virtual. Everyone loves the way life is organised, except for a group of people – the refusers.

Refusers don’t go into these virtual worlds because they don’t like it or don’t want to. And among these refusers is a girl called Luna, who has ‘double awareness’ which makes her conscious of her body in both the real world and the virtual world. She also refuses because her mum died whilst hooked up to her PIP, a device that allows you to access these virtual worlds.

Luna is picked to take a test with other students her age to see how good they are in an IQ and RQ test. She finds out that she is something called a S’Hacker which is a person with a special ability to do whatever they want in the virtual world.

She passes with flying colours and is sent to a place called ‘Inaccessible Island’ or Inac but as she is on her way the bus gets sabotaged. Luna is rescued and taken in by a group of S’Hackers called ‘the worms’ and finds out that PareCo, the people who run the virtual worlds, are not quite as they seem.

I have really enjoyed Mind Games and would definitely read a series if it came out. I can’t wait for what Teri Terry writes next, hopefully a sequel to Mind Games!
